A couple is infertile, according to the International Council on Infertility Information Dissemination (INCIID), when are not capable of conceiving after twelve months of unprotected sex. According to a study the infertility affects almost 10% of people of reproductive age. It has been seen that healthy couples in their mid-20s having regular sex have a one-in-four chance of getting pregnant in any given month. That's known as "Fecundity". A source of examination over past twenty years reveals that in approximately 30% of cases pathology is found in the man alone, and in another 20% both the man and woman are abnormal. Therefore, we may conclude that the male factor is at least partly responsible in about 50% of infertile couples.
The causes at least to some extent can be determined by analysis of the ejaculatiot, which contains the spermatozoa. The analysis includes counting the number of sperm and measuring their motility under a microscope. Here having few sperms is known as Oligospermia and if there is no sperm present in semen the case is known as Azoospermia. And where the sample is normal but shows poor motility the case is known as Asthenozoospermia. It has been speculated that the random mutation of the Y Chromosome may be an important factor in effecting the fertility in men.
There are simple to understand factors that affects the fertility im men are diabetes, thyroid disorders, mumps, hydrocele, some kind of infection, having too much of alcohol or drugs and even too much smoking. According to a study, executed by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, reveals that smoking is one the most prominent factors contributing to low sperm count in men. However, once the cause found it's not beyond remedy. Almost 85% to 90% of such cases are treated with most conventional ways as surgical operation or using drugs. If the problem still exists there is In Vitro Fertilization for such people. |
